Loren T. Atherley, PhD
Loren T. Atherley, PhD, serves as Sr. Director of Performance Analytics & Research (PA&R) and the Senior Research Scientist for the Seattle Police Department. The PA&R group represents the department’s commitment to continuous improvement and Evidence-Based Policing (EBP) through original research, evaluation, and operationalization of advanced research methods. Loren leads a national data work group focused on Analytics & Evidence Based Policing and a research network comprised of more than seventy research professionals in institutions around the world. In addition, Loren consults across the criminal justice and data sciences on topics including statistics and research methods, Artificial Intelligence (AI), Natural Language Processing (NLP) and Machine Learning (ML), EBP, risk management, police management and behavior. Loren is a NIJ LEADS Scholar and inductee to the George Mason University Evidence-Based Policing Hall of Fame, as well as an Adjunct Professor of Criminal Justice at Seattle University.
Loren holds a Master of Arts in Criminal Justice from Seattle University (MACJ), and a Ph.D. in Criminology from the Institute of Criminology at the University of Cambridge.
