The Meadows Institute – Panhandle

The Meadows Institute – Panhandle was established in April 2024 with the generous support of the Amarillo Area Foundation (AAF), Bivins Foundation, the Harrington Cancer and Health Foundation (HCHF), and the High Plains Christian Ministries Foundation (HPCMF). An evolution of the Meadows Institute's long-standing commitment to the region, the Meadows Institute – Panhandle serves as an innovation hub for rural mental health to expand capacity, increase access, and improve mental health care for all people in the region.

We stand firmly in the belief that all decisions that affect the local systems must be informed by the local systems. Our work advances the health of the Panhandle by ensuring that local resources and high-quality programs are available to our families, friends, and neighbors.”

Driving Change

The Meadows Institute – Panhandle contributes to the long-term mental health and wellbeing of residents in the Panhandle by driving transformative change. Priority areas include:

  • Improving the health and well-being of individuals across the Panhandle by supporting the implementation of the Collaborative Care Model, which makes access to treatment more convenient by combining mental health care with primary care.
  • Helping Panhandle residents receive high-quality care by providing training and technical assistance to mental health professionals through our partnership with Texas Panhandle Centers, the local mental health authority.
  • Addressing the health care workforce shortage by utilizing partnerships with the TTUHSC Department of Psychiatry and WTAMU College of Nursing and Health Sciences to build strategies to support community needs and increase the number of quality health care professionals.
  • Supporting the local veteran population by conducting studies of the behavioral health landscape for Panhandle veterans and offering clinical trainings for providers and social service organizations who serve their unique needs.
