Supporting Students Exposed to Trauma & Grief: Tips for Teachers
Educators have been seemingly inundated with trainings on how to become “trauma-informed.” But what does that actually mean? What if a student in the classroom hasn’t just been through trauma but has experienced the death of a loved one? What do we say to that student when they return to school? What do we say to other students in the class? What behaviors should teachers be looking for to indicate the student might need additional support? This brief presentation seeks to answer these questions and provide concrete strategies for teachers to implement in their classrooms in order to help create a safe environment where resilience and connections are fostered.
