Andrew Byrum

Data Scientist

Andrew comes to the Meadows Mental Health Policy Institute with eight years of experience in quantitative research and data science. Prior to joining the Meadows Institute, Andrew worked at the Council of State Governments Justice Center as a data scientist. In this role, he led data analysis and visualization work for juvenile and criminal justice projects, including the Justice Reinvestment Initiative and Improving Outcomes for Youth. Andrew began his career as research analyst with the City University of New York, overseeing research and program evaluation of citywide college readiness initiatives.

In his Meadows Institute role, Andrew joins the Research, Data and Analytics Team as an expert in justice and education data, forecasting methods, and interactive data visualization techniques. He supports the organization’s behavioral health emergency response BHERi research and evaluation work to collect, harmonize, analyze, and track program success to improve law enforcement’s response to calls involving people with behavioral health needs.

Andrew earned his BA in sociology from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and his MA in sociology from Columbia University. He currently lives in Salt Lake City, Utah.
