Erin Smith
Erin is a technologist focused on building the future of brain and mental health. In her role as Fellow for Transdisciplinary Innovation at the Meadows Institute, she focuses on developing innovative, systems-oriented solutions to the current mental health crisis that span technology, policy, and investment approaches.
Erin is the inventor and founder of FacePrint, an AI tool to detect and monitor Parkinson’s disease and commonly misidentified neurological disorders using video technology and early-stage facial expression indicators. Her 40+ academic publications have been featured in leading journals including Neuron, Molecular Psychiatry, and Oxford University Press. She is a steering committee member for the OECD Neuroscience-inspired Policy Initiative (NIPI) supported by the Meadows Institute in North America. She has had academic collaborations with Stanford University School of Medicine, Harvard Medical School, Weizmann Institute of Science, and the Michael J. Fox Foundation.
Erin is a Senior Atlantic Fellow for Equity in Brain Health at the Global Brain Health Institute. She is a Thiel Fellow and Y Combinator alumni and serves as an AAAS IF/THEN Ambassador supported by Lyda Hill Philanthropies. Currently, she studies neuroscience and computer science at Stanford University. She has been recognized by Forbes 30 under 30, European Patent Office Young Inventor Award, Wired Health Startup of the Year, and Seventeen Magazine Voice of the Year.
