Katie Mitten

Assistant Director of Child and Family Policy

Katie has over ten years of experience managing projects and programs that promote the health and safety of Texas children and families.

Prior to joining the Meadows Institute, Katie worked for Dell Children’s Medical Center providing coordination for the Safe Kid Austin Coalition and working directly with patient families and community members to provide information and training on child safety. Katie worked for Texans Care for Children for five years in various roles including managing the Hogg Foundation Mental Health Policy Academy, and later serving as a Health Policy Associate overseeing the organization’s health and early childhood intervention legislative priorities. Katie worked for the Austin Child Guidance Center leading data analysis and program improvement efforts. At Feeding Texas she started a statewide AmeriCorps VISTA program at food banks across the state aimed at connecting food bank clients to health and economic opportunities. She values community service, and served as an AmeriCorps member for two years prior to attending graduate school.

In her role at the Meadows Institute, Katie provides direction and coordination for a variety of Center for Child and Family Wellness projects.

Katie received her Master of Science in Social Work with a concentration in community and administrative leadership as well as her Bachelor of Social Work from The University of Texas at Austin.
