Marisela Lazo

Clinical Implementation Specialist

Marisela has over ten years of experience in mental health and social services. As a licensed Master Social Worker, she has worked to support and empower children and families in various settings including medical, mental health, and political.

Prior to joining the Institute, Marisela provided therapeutic interventions to survivors of domestic abuse and their children. She also worked for several years as a licensed medical social worker for Texas Children’s Hospital where she was responsible for completing psychosocial assessments, crisis intervention, case management, and suicidality screenings for children in need. Early in her career, Marisela worked for a State Representative as a Legislative clerk in the County Affairs committee. Within this role, Marisela facilitated communication between constituents and state officials to ensure legislation represented individual interests. Marisela is committed to helping children and families develop strengths to help them cope with stressors and live a more fulfilling life. In her role at the Meadows Institute, Marisela serves as a Clinical Implementation Specialist and provides training and consultation in trauma- and grief-informed best practices.

Marisela obtained her bachelor’s in psychology from Texas Woman’s University and her Master of Social Work degree from The University of Houston. She is a native Houstonian who lives with her husband, son, and dog. In her spare time, Marisela enjoys exploring Houston’s greenway trails and spending time with family.
