Lifeline: The 988 Podcast

Learn all about 988, the new national suicide and crisis lifeline launched by the U.S. government in July 2022, in this nine-part limited series podcast.

The 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline (formerly known as the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline) offers 24/7 call, text, and chat access to trained crisis counselors who can help people experiencing a suicidal, substance use, or mental health crisis, or any other kind of emotional distress. People can also contact 988 if they are worried about a loved one who may need crisis support. The 988 Lifeline is overseen by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration.

Join John Snook, JD, Chief Policy Officer at the Meadows Mental Health Policy Institute, and Shannon Scully, Senior Advisor for Justice and Crisis Response Policy at NAMI, the National Alliance on Mental Illness, as they discuss 988 in conversation with podcast host Ron LeGrand, Policy Director at the National Criminal Justice Association.
