How Utah Is Looking Out for Kids Who Lose a Parent

June 2, 2026 – The Meadows Institute is featured in Reasons to be Cheerful, a nonprofit media outlet, in a story about the steps Utah is taking to support bereaved children. In April, Utah’s Intermountain Health Primary Children’s Hospital became the first hospital in the western United States to join the TAG Network.

In the article, Dr. Julie Kaplow offers insight into childhood bereavement and the importance of early intervention.

“The majority of kids who lose a parent will go on to lead healthy, happy, productive lives,” Kaplow says.

But with bereaved children, especially those who develop prolonged or maladaptive grief, “it is critically important that we identify them early on” and intervene as soon as possible.
