Improving Outcomes Through Measurement-Informed Care

Measurement-informed care (MIC), also known as measurement-based care, involves regularly and systematically using patient data to inform clinical decisions and improve quality of care. In partnership with West Health, the Meadows Mental Health Policy Institute published a brief and hosted a companion webinar to expand understanding of MIC and how it can make behavioral health care more consistent, accountable and effective.

In February 2025, the Meadows Institute and the West Health Policy Center convened a roundtable in Washington, D.C., bringing together distinguished and interdisciplinary leaders representing insurance plans, clinical providers, mental health technology innovators, and policy experts to discuss barriers and opportunities to increase the adoption of MIC in mental health care. This high-level dialogue focused on identifying systemic barriers and key enablers to advancing the adoption and integration of MIC in various settings and highlighted “bright spots,” which are organizations and initiatives effectively utilizing MIC to treat mental health conditions.

This conversation led to the creation of “Bright Spots in Measurement-Informed Mental Health Care,” a first-of-its-kind brief that provides solutions to critical barriers to implementing MIC and identifies cross-cutting factors that are key to its successful implementation. The accompanying webinar, “What Gets Measured Gets Done: Reducing Costs & Improving Outcomes in Behavioral Health Care,” features an array of experts who present concrete policy recommendations to accelerate the adoption of MIC.
