“We’re data driven, nonpartisan organization that supports the implementation of policies and programs that help Texans obtain effective, efficient mental health care, when and where they need it,” said Meadows Institute Panhandle Executive Director Amanda Mathias, PhD. “That’s our mission and our vision, is that Texas would be the national leader in treating all people with mental health needs.”
Mathias shared across Texas there is a provider shorter in terms of behavioral health providers and collaborative care models open behavioral health services within primary care.
“If you’re in that mild to moderate range with common mental health conditions like anxiety or depression, you can easily be treated in primary care,” explained Mathias. “If you can go to one appointment and meet with multiple people to treat you as a whole person, you’re a lot more likely to one adhere to that treatment. Then, to get better. So, I think it provides that opportunity, and it really sort of shows that mental health care is health care.”
